C.K. Cheng received his early degrees from National Taiwan University and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1984. After his graduation, he worked as a senior CAD engineer at Advanced Micro Devices from 1984 to 1986 before joining the faculty at the University of California, San Diego in 1986. He won the School of Engineering's NCR Teaching Award in 1991 and served as chief scientist at Mentor Graphics in 1999. In 2000, he was named an IEEE Fellow and has received multiple awards, including the CAD Transactions Paper Award from the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society in 2002. He was an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on CAD in 1994 and has been involved in numerous conference committees, including the ACM/IEEE Design Automation Conference in June 2000. Cheng has consulted for various systems design and electronic design automation companies, with his research focusing on circuit analysis and design automation, particularly in the context of network optimization and microelectronic circuits.
