Professor Chung K. Law received his B.S. in Physics from the University of Alberta in 1968, an M.A.Sc. in Aerospace Studies from the University of Toronto in 1970, and a Ph.D. in Engineering Physics from the University of California at San Diego in 1973. He held positions at Northwestern University from 1976 to 1984 and at the University of California at Davis from 1984 to 1988. In 1988, he joined Princeton University as the Robert H. Goddard Professor in Mechanical Aerospace Engineering. His primary research interests lie in combustion, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, fuel chemistry, propulsion, energy, alternative fuels, and material synthesis. His research group investigates diverse phenomena including laminar and turbulent flames, high-pressure combustion, flame instabilities, and droplet combustion. Law has been recognized with numerous awards including the Curtis W. McGraw Research Award from the American Society for Engineering Education in 1984, several medals from the Combustion Institute, and various awards from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Professor Law is a Fellow of multiple professional societies and has directed the Combustion Energy Frontier Research Center under the U.S. Department of Energy. He has also contributed significantly to the Combustion Institute, serving as past president and director of various initiatives.
