Chunlei Liu is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences and the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his B.S. in Physics from Peking University, his M.S. in Physics from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. Before joining UC Berkeley, he served as an Associate Professor of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering at Duke University. His current research focuses on brain imaging modulation and the development of MRI signal processing techniques aimed at studying the structure and function of the brain. His group works on technologies for remote modulation of neuronal activities. Liu has received numerous accolades for his research including the NIH Pathway Independence Award (K99) in 2006, and he was a finalist for the ISMRM Young Investigator Award in 2007. He was honored with the RSNA Margulis Award in 2015 and elected as a Fellow of the ISMRM and the AIMBE (American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering) in 2021. He is also a Weill Neurohub Investigator.
