Biography

Ciamac C. Moallemi is an Associate Professor in the Business Decision, Risk, and Operations Division at the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University. He received his S.B. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, as well as Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1996). He later studied at the University of Cambridge, where he earned a Certificate in Advanced Study in Mathematics with distinction (1997). He completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University in 2007. Prior to his doctoral studies, Moallemi developed quantitative methods in various entrepreneurial ventures, serving as a partner in a $200 million fixed-income arbitrage hedge fund and as a director in scientific computing for an early-stage drug discovery start-up. He was also the founder of a computer security software start-up. Moallemi is an associate editor for Operations Research and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). He is the recipient of the British Marshall Scholarship (1996) and the Benchmark Stanford Graduate Fellowship (2003).
