Cian O’Driscoll joined the Australian National University (ANU) in 2020. He completed his PhD in International Politics at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and has previously worked at the University of Glasgow. His published work examines the development of war traditions and the role they play in contemporary debates about the rights and wrongs of warfare. These themes are reflected in his monographs, 'Victory: Triumph and Tragedy in War' (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2019) and 'Renegotiating War Tradition' (New York: Palgrave, 2008). Cian has also co-edited volumes and published in leading journals in the field, including 'International Studies Quarterly,' 'European Journal of International Relations,' 'Journal of Strategic Studies,' 'Journal of Global Security Studies,' 'Review of International Studies,' 'Ethics & International Affairs,' and 'Millennium.' He is the Principal Investigator for the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) project entitled 'Moral Victories' and was a fellow at the Independent Social Research Foundation (ISRF) in 2019. Cian is currently Chair of the International Ethics section of the International Studies Association.
