Cian Power grew up in Gloucestershire and came to Oxford to read for a BA in Philosophy and Theology in 2008. He also completed an MSt in Jewish Studies in 2009 at Oriel College, Oxford. He earned his PhD from Harvard University in 2015, presenting a dissertation entitled 'Attitudes Towards Linguistic Diversity in the Hebrew Bible', supervised by Peter Machinist. Following this, he held a postdoctoral research fellowship focused on Hebrew Bible/Old Testament Exegesis at the Department of Theology at Uppsala University in Sweden from 2016 to 2018. In addition to his academic pursuits, Power has worked as a translator and editor. His research expertise lies in Biblical Studies, particularly in understanding the identity of ancient Israel and Judah as represented in the Hebrew Bible, as well as the language and society of ancient Israel.
