Biography

Cindy Ewing is an Assistant Professor of Contemporary International History in the Department of History and the International Relations Program at Trinity College, University of Toronto. Her research primarily focuses on international history, particularly the Cold War, postcolonialism, and Southeast Asian studies. Ewing's scholarly work examines the interconnections of decolonization and global processes in the twentieth century, emphasizing themes such as nationalism, human rights, and non-alignment. She is currently preparing a book manuscript titled 'Gatekeepers: Human Rights International Solidarities World,' which investigates the postcolonial conditions of nations in South and Southeast Asia and their role in the emerging global order, especially regarding human rights and sovereignty issues. Additionally, she is working on a project that explores global neutralist networks in post-independence Cambodia, Laos, Burma, India, and Indonesia. Ewing has previously held visiting positions and fellowships at prestigious institutions including the University of Virginia and the University of Texas at Austin, and she is affiliated with several research centers at the University of Toronto.
