Biography

Cindy M. Meston is a full professor in Clinical Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in 1995 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Sexual Reproductive Medicine at the University of Washington, School of Medicine in 1996. Meston's research focuses on sexual psychophysiology, specifically women's sexual arousal and the cognitive processes that mediate sexual function and dysfunction, particularly after experiences of childhood sexual abuse. She has received numerous awards for her research, including the Sexuality Research Fellowship from the Ford Foundation and the Distinguished Professor Award from the Canadian Research Foundation at the University of Ottawa. Meston has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, co-authoring notable works like 'Women’s Sexual Function and Dysfunction' and 'Women Sex'. Notably, she was recognized by BBC as one of the 100 influential women in the world in 2016. She remains an active member of several professional organizations, including serving as the Past President of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH).
