Biography

Cindy C. Oxberry has 35 years of experience in the opera world with a successful career as a singer on operatic and musical theatre stages across the United States. She transitioned to directing and has a passion for education that has diversified her career, including working as a dramatic coach. She is dedicated to mentoring young artists beginning their careers, having started as a director at summer opera festivals. Her directorial debut was with the production 'Face Barroom Floor' at Opera North, following summers as an assistant director with the Central City Opera in Colorado. Over the past 25 years, she has served as a house assistant director at the Washington National Opera and as associate director with the Los Angeles Opera. Notably, she was invited by Placido Domingo to direct a production of 'Fedora' in Mexico City to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his career as a singing artist. For the last 22 summers, she has worked as Faculty Director and stage director with the Opera Institute at the Education Department of the Washington National Opera, an esteemed competitive training program for young high school singing artists aspiring to attend universities and conservatories for music. She also serves as the director for the opera scenes program at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and has been a frequent presenter of master classes at various prestigious institutions including the LA Opera, Washington National Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Manhattan School of Music, Juilliard School of Music, Baldwin Wallace University, and Catholic University of America.
