Biography

Professor Emeritus Cindy Peternelj-Taylor, retired in June 2022, taught undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Nursing for 30 years. During her tenure, she supervised numerous master's students and served on various master's and doctoral committees. Her career focused on the professional role development of nurses and healthcare professionals working with vulnerable populations in mental health, forensic mental health, and correctional settings. She was actively engaged in the College's biennial conference "Custody Caring: International Conference on the Nurse's Role in the Criminal Justice System" and was a founding member of the University of Saskatchewan Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science and Justice Studies, serving on the Executive Committee from 2011 to 2014 and again from 2018 to 2021. As an experienced writer, editor, and scholar, she published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and books, and was a sought-after speaker at national and international conferences. Her editorial roles included Associate Editor of the Americas Journal of Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and Guest Editor for multiple special issues related to forensic nursing. Furthermore, she received the Distinguished Fellow designation from the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
