Dr. Cindy Poortman

Biography

Cindy Poortman is an Associate Professor at the University of Twente, focusing on the continuing professional development of teachers and school leaders. Her research encompasses themes such as data use, leadership, sustainability, and student agency in both primary and higher education settings. She is the director of PRO-U, a professional development platform for teachers at UT, and has co-founded the international network Professional Learning Networks within the International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI). In the realm of teacher education, she serves as a guest lecturer in various programs and contributes to academic conferences. Her publications are extensive, including a translated book on data team procedures and various journal papers related to teacher professional development networks and communities. Notably, she edited a book titled 'Networks for Learning' published in 2018 and has contributed significantly to understanding the role of learning conversations in improving student outcomes, with additional work expected in 2025 on guidelines for Professional Learning Communities.
