Dr. Circe Sturm

Biography

Circe Sturm is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California, Davis, in 1997. Sturm has a strong academic background with a Master’s degree in Linguistic Anthropology from the same university, obtained in 1994, and a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin, awarded in 1991. Her research interests revolve around critical themes such as race, sovereignty, citizenship, and comparative colonialisms. She explores complex issues related to race and indigeneity, as well as concepts of dominance, resistance, and subjectivity, particularly in the context of Native North America, Central America, and Europe. Sturm's role at the University of Texas is significant as she contributes to the academic discourse through her research and teaching endeavors, fostering a deeper understanding of these important social constructs among students and colleagues alike.
