Dr. Ciruce Movahedi Lankarani

Biography

Ciruce Movahedi-Lankarani is the Farhang Foundation Early Career Chair in Iranian Studies and an Assistant Professor of Middle East Studies and Environmental Studies at the University of Southern California. Ciruce focuses on modern Iran, examining the country's recent history through the interrelated lenses of technology, development, and environmental issues. Her forthcoming book, Accelerant: Energy Infrastructures and the Natural World in the Making of Modern Iran, published by Stanford University Press, delves into the complexities of energy infrastructures in shaping Iran's modern landscape. She has received significant research funding and fellowships, including an award from the National Endowment for the Humanities to explore the Dangers and Opportunities of Technology from Perspectives in the Humanities. Movahedi-Lankarani has contributed to esteemed journals and has been involved in reviewing publications related to Engineering Studies and other fields. She actively participates in academic conferences, including organizing the upcoming Petrocultures 2024 in Los Angeles. Her educational background includes a B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics from Pennsylvania State University, an M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Pennsylvania.
