Biography

Claartje Rasterhoff is an Assistant Professor in Cultural Policy & Management at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) and co-founder of Plant: Playground Laboratory for New Technologies. She serves as managing director of the Maastricht Centre for Arts & Culture, Heritage Conservation (MACCH). Her research delves into collective action and regenerative practices in and with arts heritage, actively seeking to connect academic research and teaching with societal partners through the design of digital methods. Previously, she worked as a project leader for the Culture Monitor at the Boekmanstichting, a research institute focused on arts and cultural policy, and as an Assistant Professor of Urban History and Digital Methods at the University of Amsterdam. Her current projects include collaborations such as Treeline Maastricht and the REACCT (Research, Education, and Action Lab into Collective and Circular Transformation) initiative, spanning from 2023 to 2027. With a focus on the relationship between culture and place, her work questions how cultural life is organized and valued over time, particularly how digital skills and collaborative learning can enhance arts heritage research. She obtained her PhD in History from Utrecht University in 2012 and has since explored various topics across Media Studies, History, Urban Studies, and Cultural Economics, establishing a multidisciplinary approach informed by current societal debates.
