Claire Arthur is an Associate Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Music and also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Psychology. She earned her PhD in Music Theory and Cognition from Ohio State University, where she worked under David Huron. Claire completed her Master’s degree in Music Theory at the University of British Columbia and holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto. Originally from Ontario, Canada, her research addresses the intersection of music perception and cognition, computational musicology, and music information retrieval. Arthur leads the Computational Cognitive Musicology Lab (CCML), which focuses on building novel datasets and analyzing musical data generated by humans. This work addresses questions such as the characteristics that make AI-generated melodies indistinguishable from human compositions and what features of music affect cognitive processes and emotional responses. Her research has been published in various prestigious journals and conference proceedings including Music Perception, Music & Science, and the proceedings of the International Society for Music Information Retrieval (ISMIR).
