Biography

Claire Chamberland is a renowned expert in the field of child victimization, recognized nationally and internationally. She served at the School of Social Work at the University of Montreal from 1980 to 2013, focusing her research on social epidemiology in the areas of polyvictimization, maltreatment, and violence against children. Passionate about social innovations, she implemented several community assistance programs, including Les Scientifines, aimed at young female students from underprivileged neighborhoods, and Mothers with Power, targeting mothers from disadvantaged backgrounds. During her 30 years at the School of Social Work, she exposed students to the realities faced by vulnerable populations. As the holder of the Canada Research Chair on Child Victimization from 2006 to 2013, she contributed significantly to the knowledge development in victimology through numerous discoveries. A founding member of the Interdisciplinary Research Center on Family Violence and Violence Against Women, Claire has published five books and about thirty book chapters, playing a key role in training the new generation of researchers.
