Claire Donald graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Cellular Biology from the University of St Andrews. As part of her degree, she completed a final year project in the lab of Prof Rick Randall studying the V protein of the Simian virus 5. She went on to complete an MSc in Drug Design and Biomedical Science at Edinburgh Napier University, where her research project involved characterizing innate immune responses in an Aedes aegypti-derived Aag2 cell line under the supervision of Prof Alain Kohl at the University of Edinburgh. After finishing her MSc, Claire continued her studies on mosquito innate antiviral immune responses to arboviral infections in the Kohl lab, earning her PhD in Virology from the University of Glasgow in 2015. Her research primarily focuses on using the Semliki Forest virus and Zika virus models to investigate antiviral immune responses in mosquitoes and mammalian in vivo and in vitro systems. Additionally, her scholarship research is centered on utilizing virtual reality to enhance learning at the undergraduate level.
