Biography

Claire Germain served for 17 years as the Edward D. Cornell Law Librarian. During her tenure, she championed technological service innovation within the library and spearheaded concepts essential for servicing faculty and students' research information needs. Professor Germain actively advocated for the authentication of digital law and contributed to the introduction of legal research tests for the bar exam. Her service at the Law School extended beyond the library; she served as director of dual degree programs with Cornell University and Paris Humboldt and participated on the boards of numerous associations including the American Association of Law Libraries and the American Association of Law Schools. Professor Germain authored the award-winning book 'Germain's Transnational Law Research' and numerous articles on legal research, comparative law, and French statutory interpretation, contributing to leading comparative law casebooks published by West. She also taught courses in French law at the Ithaca Paris Summer Institute. In recognition of her efforts toward bridging American and French legal cultures, Professor Germain was honored with the Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, which is France's highest honor.
