Claire Wardle is an Adjunct Professor of Practice in Health Services, Policy and Practice at Brown University’s School of Public Health. She is a recognized leader in the field of misinformation and verification of user-generated content. Claire co-authored the foundational report, ‘Information Disorder: An Interdisciplinary Framework for Research and Policy,’ which was commissioned by the Council of Europe. In 2015, she co-founded the nonprofit organization First Draft, which has pioneered practices and innovations in the research and practice of misinformation. Over the past decade, she has developed an organization-wide training program for the BBC’s eyewitness media on misinformation verification. Additionally, Claire has worked on policy initiatives with UNHCR and served as a Fellow at the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School. She was also the Research Director at the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. Claire holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Pennsylvania.
