Biography

Clare Harding is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Infection & Immunity at the University of Glasgow, specializing in Parasitology. Her research focuses on the cell biology of the intracellular parasite Toxoplasma gondii, investigating the molecular mechanisms that enable the parasite to maintain its unique teardrop-like shape and adapt to varying iron concentrations in host cells. Through her work, Harding seeks to understand how Toxoplasma acquires and utilizes iron, a critical nutrient. Her research utilizes genome-wide CRISPR screens and unbiased proteomics alongside targeted genetic approaches to explore the pathways and proteins that enable Toxoplasma to respond to changes in its iron-rich environment. She has received multiple grants for her research, including support from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and the Wellcome Trust.
