Clare Melhuish is a Professorial Research Fellow at the UCL Urban Laboratory, a cross-disciplinary department of The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, where she has been involved since August 2021. Prior to this position, she participated in urban research teaching at UCL starting in 2005. She has held the position of Head of Department and Director of the UCL Urban Laboratory from 2018 to 2024, and has been a member of the faculty since 2013. Melhuish's research primarily focuses on university-led urban regeneration associated with early planning initiatives for the UCL East campus development project in east London. She is dedicated to developing public-facing research activities and cross-disciplinary urban heritage research programmes that engage with postcolonial and decolonial urban contexts. Melhuish co-convenes a module entitled Histories of Global London from 1900 to the present and contributes to the Cities Studio module in the MASc Global Urbanism programme. With a background in anthropology, she completed her PhD in Social Anthropology at Brunel University in 2008. Melhuish also has extensive experience as an architectural journalist and critic, as well as a curator.
