Biography

Clare Palmer, the George T. Gladys H. Abell Professor in the College of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M University, specializes in Environmental Ethics, Animal Ethics, and Climate Ethics. An accomplished author, she has written/co-authored four significant books including 'Wildlife Ethics: Ethics of Wildlife Management and Conservation' (Wiley Blackwell, 2023) and 'Animal Ethics in Context' (Columbia University Press, 2010). Palmer has also edited multiple collections, such as 'Linking Ecology and Ethics in a Changing World' (Springer, 2014). With over 100 publications in leading journals, her contributions span 'Philosophical Studies', 'The Journal of Applied Philosophy', and 'Trends in Ecology and Evolution'. She was the founding editor of 'Worldviews: Environment, Culture, Religion' and served as President of the International Society for Environmental Ethics from 2007 to 2010. In 2023, she and Ron Sandler received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for their project 'Ethics of Conservation Biotechnology: A Conceptual Engineering Approach'. Palmer has been involved with NIH as a committee member addressing potential biotechnologies for forest health from 2017 to 2019, and serves on the editorial boards of several journals focusing on agricultural and environmental ethics. She co-authors a monthly ethics column in the Canadian Veterinary Journal.
