Dr. Clare Wenham

Biography

Clare Wenham is an Associate Professor of Global Health Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She serves as the Deputy Head and PhD Director of the Department of Health Policy and is a member of the LSE Global Health Initiative steering committee. Her research primarily focuses on the interplay of public policy and global health security, examining how state and non-state actors navigate the political landscape during health crises. Wenham's work critically analyzes financing mechanisms in global health and the implications for universal health coverage, as well as the development of surveillance methods for infectious diseases. She is particularly interested in the gendered impacts of health policies, studying how these frameworks affect women differently, especially in contexts like the Zika virus and COVID-19. Throughout her career, she has engaged with various governmental bodies, contributing to policy development at the UK Parliament and European Union. Clare has a PhD in International Relations from Aberystwyth University and has previously worked at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
