Biography

Clark Lombardi is the Dan Fenno Henderson Professor of East Asian Legal Studies and the Director of Islamic Legal Studies at the University of Washington School of Law. He specializes in Islamic law and comparative constitutional law, teaching courses focusing on federalism and development law. Lombardi’s current research involves the evolution of Islamic law and its interaction with contemporary legal systems, emphasizing how constitutional systems address the relationship between religious organizations and religious law. Lombardi has taught Islamic law at Columbia Law School and NYU's Department of Middle East Studies and has spoken at numerous academic forums, contributing to projects advising on constitutional legal reforms in the Muslim world including Iraq and Afghanistan. He has been recognized for his work as a Carnegie Scholar from 2006 to 2008, furthering his research on Islamic law and constitutionalism in the modern world.
