Biography

Claude Evans is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream Emerita in French Studies within the Department of Language Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga and an Associated Scholar at the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto St. George. His primary research focuses on historical philological themes related to Medieval Brittany. He is currently preparing a volume entitled 'Fondation des abbayes de Saint-Rion et de Beauport, Privilèges pontificaux, Sphères d’influence des évêques de Saint-Brieuc, Dol, Tréguier et Lincoln (1198-1305),' which includes the edition of 189 medieval documents from Beauport Abbey, a Premonstratensian abbey in Brittany. Evans is also co-editing volumes and articles stemming from colloquia sponsored by the Ancient Abbeys Brittany Project, addressing topics such as monastic convergences and identities in Medieval Western Europe. He retired in 2021.
