Biography

Claudia Angelos is a Clinical Professor and the Law Externship Director at New York University School of Law. An expert in prisoners' rights, she has dedicated over twenty years to teaching and litigation, directing the Civil Rights Clinic, Racial Justice Clinic, and New York Civil Liberties Clinic at NYU Law. Under her direction, students have litigated more than 100 civil rights cases in New York federal courts. Angelos speaks on a wide range of issues related to legal education, prisoners' rights, civil rights, ethics, and trial practice. She is an honors graduate of Radcliffe College and Harvard Law School, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. A long-time past president of the New York Civil Liberties Union, she also serves as general counsel and sits on the board's executive committee for the American Civil Liberties Union. Additionally, Angelos is a member of the boards of Prisoners' Legal Services and the New York Society of American Law Teachers. In 2015, she received the national award for Outstanding Advocate in Clinical Legal Education.
