Biography

Claudia Chiriboga is a Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) and serves as the Interim Director of the Division of Child Neurology. She specializes in Pediatric Neurology and Neuromuscular Medicine. Dr. Chiriboga was born in Peru and graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Buenos Aires in 1982. Following her education, she completed her pediatrics training at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in 1985, and her child neurology training in 1988 at the Neurological Institute of Babies Hospital, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. She also held a fellowship in Neuroepidemiology at the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center and earned a Master of Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. Her current research focuses on clinical trials for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and she has previously worked on NIH-funded projects concerning congenital infections, neurodevelopmental disorders, and the effects of perinatal exposures on cerebral palsy. Dr. Chiriboga is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Child Neurology and has been recognized as one of America's Top Doctors.
