Dr. Claudia Jahnel

Biography

Claudia Jahnel is a Professor of Intercultural Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Hamburg. Her academic work emphasizes religious interconnections, particularly in African contexts, and explores issues of embodiment intersecting interdisciplinary, intercultural, and interreligious dialogues. As a pioneer in the study of Global Christianity, she focuses on Christianity in Africa and Latin America, with additional interests in globalization, migration, and religion. Jahnel has served as a Professor at the Ruhr-University Bochum, where she directed research in Intercultural Theology and embodied spiritual practices. With a distinguished career that includes leadership roles at various theological institutions, she has garnered recognition for her contributions to postcolonial and liberation theology, as well as for her advocacy in religious ecology and intercultural dialogue. Claudia obtained her doctorate and habilitation at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, culminating in influential publications addressing intercultural theology and the socio-ethical implications of religion in education systems, particularly in Germany and the USA.
