Biography

Claudia Neves joined the Department of Mathematics at King’s College London as a Lecturer in Statistics in 2021 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2023. Prior to this, she held a lecturer position in Theoretical Probability and Statistics at the University of Reading from 2015 to 2021, where she was awarded an EPSRC Innovation Fellowship for her work on 'Multivariate Max-stable Processes with Application to the Forecasting of Multiple Hazards'. Before joining Reading, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. Her primary field expertise lies in extreme value theory, which models extreme rare events. Her research focuses on the development of statistical methodologies to tackle complex issues in applied sciences, spanning meteorology, environmental science, insurance, and finance. Claudia obtained her PhD in Statistics and Operational Research from the University of Lisbon in 2006. She has maintained strong connections with the academic community in Lisbon through a Visiting Research Fellowship at the University of Reading and ongoing collaborations with the Centre of Statistics and its Applications. She has been teaching at the university level since 1997.
