Dr. Claudia Valeggia

Biography

Claudia Valeggia’s research primarily focuses on the interactions between human reproductive biology and ecological cultural contexts. Her biocultural approach emphasizes the interplay between biology and culture as a central aspect of interpreting reproductive and demographic patterns. Her research interests encompass human reproductive ecology, reproductive endocrinology, maternal and child health, evolutionary demography, biodemography, aging, and health among indigenous populations in Latin America. Originally from Argentina, she received her degree in biology and later obtained her PhD from the University of California, Davis. Valeggia joined Yale University in 2014 after her tenure in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania.
