Biography

Claudia Welz studied Theology and Philosophy in Tübingen, Jerusalem, Heidelberg, and Munich. She completed her PhD at the Institute for Hermeneutics, Philosophy, and Religion at the University of Zürich from 2003 to 2006. Following this, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Subjectivity Research from 2006 to 2010. From 2010 to 2018, she held a professorship with special responsibilities in Ethics, Philosophy, and Religion at the University of Copenhagen, where she also founded an interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Jewish Thought in Modern Culture. She has participated in several significant research projects, notably at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities in Bad Homburg and Goethe-University Frankfurt, focusing on the intersections of Jewish, Christian, and Islamic contexts. Since September 2020, she has been a Professor of Ethics, Philosophy, and Religion at the School of Culture and Society, Aarhus University. Her diverse research interests encompass systematic theology, philosophy, Jewish thought, environmental ethics, and arts-based research. She has authored and co-edited numerous publications in these fields, contributing significantly to the academic discourse.
