Biography

Claudio R. Alarcon is an Associate Professor at Yale School of Medicine in the Department of Pharmacology. He is engaged in research that employs multidisciplinary approaches to understand the impact of RNA metabolism on development, health, and disease. His work primarily focuses on identifying the physiological and pathophysiological roles of RNA modifications and non-coding RNAs at the molecular, cellular, and organismal levels. A native of Chile, Alarcon obtained his Ph.D. from Cornell University in New York City. Before joining Yale University in 2017, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Rockefeller University. His research includes utilizing bioinformatics and molecular cellular techniques to analyze gene groups altered in metastatic breast cancer cells, uncovering the roles of specific microRNAs and transcription factors in cancer metastasis. He aims to elucidate the global mechanisms through which RNA modifications affect cancer initiation and progression.
