Dr. Claudio Silva

Biography

Claudio Silva is an Institute Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, where he co-directs the Center for Data Science and the VIDA Center. He has a substantial academic background, having received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Universidade Federal Ceará in Brazil in 1990, followed by a PhD in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1996. Silva has supervised over 20 PhD students and 10 Master's students, and has mentored more than 20 post-doctoral researchers. His research focuses primarily on Visualization, Graphics, Geometric Computing, Data Science, Urban Computing, and Sports Analytics. He has published over 300 papers, with significant work recognized through various awards, including the IEEE Visualization Technical Achievement Award. Silva served as the Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Visualization and Computer Graphics from 2015 to 2018 and has made significant contributions to the field through his consulting work with major media organizations. He continues to influence the research community and drive innovation through his active participation in multiple research centers and initiatives.
