Professor Dr. Claus Rinner

Biography

Claus Rinner is a Professor and the Undergraduate Program Director in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University, formerly known as Ryerson University. He holds degrees in applied mathematics and applied systems science and completed his Ph.D. in geography at the University of Bonn, Germany. His areas of expertise include Geographic Information Systems (GIS), cartography, and decision support systems, with applications in public health, social policy, and environmental planning. Dr. Rinner leads a New Frontiers Research Fund project focused on post-pandemic recovery and has secured an NSERC Discovery Grant for his research in geospatial multi-criteria decision analysis. He is recognized as one of the top scientists in his field and has an extensive publication record with over 4,000 citations and an h-index of 30. Dr. Rinner is actively involved in various academic and professional organizations and has represented his field in significant research projects funded by prominent Canadian research bodies.
