Biography

H.C “Clay” Avery is a licensed attorney in Texas focusing on Alternative Dispute Resolution, particularly mediation and negotiation. He is an active teacher and trainer in the subjects of conflict analysis and resolution. In addition to teaching at the University of Texas School of Law, Clay is passionate about furthering the profession of mediation and is involved with major dispute resolution organizations in Texas. With years of experience as a mediator, he has developed a strong belief in a community-based approach to collaborative problem-solving. Clay is a member of the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association, where he holds the TMCA Credentialed Advanced Mediator designation. He is also an active volunteer mediator at the Austin Dispute Resolution Center and trains future mediators through the Tarrant County Dispute Resolution’s 40-hour basic mediator training course. Alongside his teaching role, Clay has served as contingent faculty at St. Edward’s University in Austin, teaching Conflict Analysis and Resolution as part of the Doctorate of Leadership in Higher Education program. He is currently on the board of the Austin Mediators Association, serving as the Treasurer, and is a board member of the Texas Association of Mediators.
