Biography

Clemens W.H. Bergwitz, MD, is an endocrinologist and Associate Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. His primary research focus is on metabolic bone disorders, especially hypophosphatemia, and he has worked extensively on defining the genetic basis of related disorders such as Hereditary Hypophosphatemic Rickets Hypercalciuria (HHRH). Since 2006, he has developed his research around inborn errors of bone mineral metabolism, leading clinical trials and using murine models to understand phosphate therapy impacts on musculoskeletal and renal systems. His recent interests include the signaling pathways through which metazoan cells sense inorganic phosphate and the effects of phosphate on cellular metabolism. Dr. Bergwitz is a member of the Endocrine Consult Service at Yale New Haven Hospital and sees patients with various endocrine disorders. He has earned numerous awards for his contributions to endocrinology and actively participates in several professional organizations, including the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research.
