Biography

Cleo O'Callaghan Yeoman is a Research Associate in the Centre for Robert Burns Studies in the Department of Scottish Literature at the University of Glasgow. She received her PhD from the University of Stirling, with a dissertation titled 'Novel Reading and Self-Improvement in Scotland, c. 1800-37', and is funded by the AHRC SGSAH DTP. Additionally, she serves as the Early Career Officer for the British Association of Romantic Studies. Cleo's research interests encompass Scottish Romanticism, novel theories of improvement, women's writing, history of reading, library history, book history, and canonization. She has authored several publications, including articles and reports examining various aspects of literary history and reading practices in the 18th century. Cleo has experience teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the Universities of Glasgow, Stirling, and Edinburgh, where she has developed and delivered a range of seminar and lecture materials incorporating digital resources. Her teaching topics have included literary theory, the 18th-century novel, digital humanities, and Romantic poetry. In 2023, she received an AHRC-funded Visiting Doctoral Fellowship to conduct research at the University of California, Berkeley.
