Biography

Clint Bracknell is a Noongar song-maker and composer serving as a Professor of Music at the University of Western Australia. His research focuses on the intersections of song, language, and landscapes, and he is involved in projects aimed at enhancing Indigenous community access to intangible cultural heritage. His work is situated at the confluence of applied linguistics, ethnomusicology, ecomusicology, popular music studies, Australian studies, and Indigenous studies. Clint has been recognized as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities and has held the position of Chair at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Council. He has co-translated groundbreaking Indigenous language works for film and theatre and leads efforts to develop the Mayakeniny Noongar performance resource website, in addition to releasing music under the name Maatakitj. His contributions to media include participation in a five-part podcast series titled "Song Boss" aired on ABC Radio National and significant articles discussing Indigenous music's impact.
