Dr. Cobi Calyx

Biography

Cobi Calyx is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales with over a decade of experience in disaster response, risk reduction, environmental governance, health promotion, inclusive design, and science communication. Cobi's extensive work spans various roles, including an executive position within government policy and catalyzing collaboration at the Centre for Social Impact, UNSW. Cobi is significantly involved in work-integrated learning initiatives for science students and joined the Environment Society Group in 2022. As an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Cobi has demonstrated expertise in teaching and engaging with students. Guest lecturing on space governance has led to collaborations with organizations such as the Australian Space Agency and the United Nations Satellite Centre in Geneva. Cobi focuses on participatory action research that prioritizes lived experiences in health policy, notably in research related to gestational diabetes. Cobi is multilingual and actively participates in the revival of languages, particularly Kaurna and Guernésiais, having lived on five continents and advocated for Indigenous self-determination in Asia.
