Dr. Cody Barteet

Biography

Cody Barteet is an Associate Professor in the Department of Visual Arts at Western University. His research interests focus on Hispanic American art and architecture, particularly during the colonial period in Yucatán, along with 20th-century stained glass in Canada and the United States. He explores themes of race and gender in art and urbanism, with a strong emphasis on EDI-D methodologies and environmental studies. Barteet's teaching complement his research, offering courses that examine visual cultures of the pre-contact Americas, as well as Renaissance and Baroque art and architecture. He has been involved in curating exhibitions and developing visual databases that document the artistic production in Southern Ontario. Barteet is actively engaged in critical discourse around colonial practices and the impact of environmental changes on artistic heritage, and he is currently co-editing journal issues that focus on the mobility of visual and textual objects across various cultural intersections.
