Professor Schlenker received a B.S. in Chemistry from Linfield College in 2004 and subsequently earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Southern California in 2010. During his graduate studies, he conducted research under Professor Mark E. Thompson, focusing on the photophysics of organic optoelectronic devices. After earning his doctorate, he worked with Professor David S. Ginger at the University of Washington as an NSF SEES Postdoctoral Fellow, studying the excited-state dynamics of semiconducting polymers. In 2014, he joined the University of Washington’s Department of Chemistry as an Assistant Professor, where he is also a member of the UW Clean Energy Institute and the Molecular Engineering & Sciences Institute. His research group specializes in monitoring and manipulating electronic dynamics at complex chemical interfaces, with applications in rechargeable battery chemistries, solar photocatalysts, and next-generation photovoltaics. He has been recognized with multiple honors, including the NSF CAREER Award and the designation of Young Investigator by both the Journal of the American Chemical Society and ACS Applied Energy Materials.
