Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Coen Lab. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
The Coen Lab focuses on molecular approaches to understanding herpesviruses, specifically herpes simplex virus (HSV) and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). Research is centered around three main foci: the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression relevant to virus latency, functional dissection of replication proteins, and investigation of antiviral drug targets and mechanisms. The laboratory examines the role of viral and host microRNAs in regulating viral genes and explores the mechanisms by which drugs inhibit viral polymerases. In collaboration with the Abraham laboratory, the Coen Lab has studied protein kinase roles in nuclear egress and identified potential new antiviral targets within the nuclear egress complex. Despite recent closures, the lab continues to work on manuscripts and remain engaged in the fight against viral infections through the development of new therapeutic strategies.
