Biography

Colin Donnelly completed his BA and MPhil at the University of Oxford and finished his PhD at Durham University in 2023. He served as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Early Modern History at the University of Limerick from 2023 to 2024, focusing on social history and deviance in early modern German universities. In 2024, he became an Assistant Professor of Church History at Virginia Theological Seminary in the United States. He has had several international relocations over the years, returning to Oxford in 2025 to take his current role as Associate Professor in Reformation and Early Modern Christianities, as well as a Tutorial Fellow at Keble College. His research interests encompass Reformation history and theology, early modern history, Tudor England, the Holy Roman Empire, and the history of universities and concepts of the soul and afterlife.
