Dr. Colin Kleanthous

Biography

Colin Kleanthous is a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Oxford, specializing in the study of protein-protein interactions and the mechanisms of Gram-negative bacterial cell envelopes. His research employs a range of biochemical and structural techniques to explore how proteins interact to build and maintain the cell envelope of Gram-negative bacteria, with a particular focus on bacteriocins and their applications in combating multi-drug resistant infections. Kleanthous's work has led to significant insights into the outer membrane organization, challenging the conventional understanding of its structure. Recent collaborations have revealed new regulatory mechanisms that control protein insertion and membrane dynamic responses during bacterial growth. He is also involved in developing innovative protein antibiotics through Glox Therapeutics, leveraging findings from his research. Due to health concerns related to a recent diagnosis, Kleanthous is no longer recruiting students or postdoctoral researchers to his lab.
