Dr. Colin Maclay

Biography

Colin M. Maclay is a research professor of communication and the executive director of the USC Annenberg Innovation Lab. His research focuses on the intersection of new technology and democratic civic engagement. The Annenberg Innovation Lab employs a think-and-do approach to explore the interaction of society's complex problems and opportunities in media, technology, and culture. Maclay is driven by the need to understand the radical changes in information communications that affect both immutable organizations and institutions, and the complex interactions among people. His work poses critical questions about how emerging technologies can be harnessed to serve the interests of society at large. Maclay holds a PhD from Northeastern University and is affiliated with various projects, including the Civic Imagination Project and Race, Arts Placemaking. He also hosts a podcast titled 'Like Far?' with Henry Jenkins.
