Biography

Colin Mayer is Emeritus Professor of Management Studies at Saïd Business School and a Visiting Professor at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at the University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and has held positions at various esteemed institutions, including the Centre for Economic Policy Research and the European Corporate Governance Institute. Mayer is an Emeritus Fellow of Wadham College and an Honorary Fellow at Oriel College and St Anne’s College, Oxford. He has served as co-chair of the Scottish Government Business Purpose Commission and is a member of boards such as the Oxford Playhouse and the UK Government Natural Capital Committee. Mayer has extensive experience in governance related roles, including as part of the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal and the International Advisory Board of the Securities Exchange Board of India. From 1986 to 2010, he was chairman of Oxera Ltd and was a director of Aurora Energy Research Ltd from 2013 to 2020. In recognition of his contributions, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours. His research primarily focuses on corporate finance, governance, regulation, taxation, and the role of corporations in contemporary society. He led a British Academy enquiry titled 'The Future Corporation' from 2017 to 2021 and authored the recent book 'Capitalism Crises: Fix', published by Oxford University Press.
