Biography

Colleen E. Laurence, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. Her research focuses on delivering comprehensive, trauma-informed emergency care to immigrant populations and realizing language justice in emergency care throughout the United States. Through her implementation work, she engages in community-based research aimed at equitable engagement with historically marginalized populations. Dr. Laurence's early work includes developing a clinic-based smartphone application to support people living with HIV, which was recognized by the CDC in 2019 as an Evidence-Informed Intervention for retention in HIV care. She completed her medical degree at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and her residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of Cincinnati, where she served as Chief Resident. Additionally, she participated in a Local Health Equity Fellowship at Boston Medical Center, highlighting her commitment to addressing health disparities.
