Dr. Collette Ncube

Biography

Collette Ncube is an Assistant Professor at Boston University School of Public Health, specializing in social perinatal epidemiology. Her research focuses on understanding and addressing the social structural drivers of racial and ethnic disparities in maternal and infant health. Dr. Ncube investigates the role of neighborhoods and the larger social context in producing and perpetuating disparities across the life course and generations. Utilizing novel methodologies, she examines the operationalization of structural racism. She is a strong proponent of diversity, equity, and inclusion, engaging undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students in her research projects. With a commitment to enriching classroom experiences, she leverages students’ diverse backgrounds, training, and lived experiences to foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment. She employs team-based learning as a key aspect of her teaching model, ensuring that student teams are intentionally composed to promote a rich academic atmosphere. Dr. Ncube's work involves mentoring students and integrating their perspectives into research, ultimately aiming for a more equitable public health landscape.
