Biography

Collin Closek is a Staff Scientist at the Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions, focusing on optimizing molecular computational tools to address ecological and evolutionary questions. His research encompasses various areas, including environmental change, ocean health, biodiversity, disease, environmental DNA (eDNA), -omics, and aquaculture. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Georgia and earned his Ph.D. in Biology from Pennsylvania State University. Closek has completed several postdoctoral appointments, including a joint postdoctoral researcher role at the University of Washington's School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences and the University of Maryland's Institute for Marine and Environmental Technology. He has an advanced collaborative training appointment as a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University’s Woods Institute for the Environment in conjunction with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Closek enjoys exploring and teaching about the natural world, along with the diversity and complexities of the challenges faced by the environment.
