Biography

Collin Payne joined ANU School of Demography following a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard University, where he also completed his Ph.D. in Demography at the University of Pennsylvania. He is an ARC DECRA Fellow and a recipient of the ANU Futures Scheme. Additionally, he serves as an Associate Investigator with the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research and has experience as a visiting faculty member at the Harvard Center for Population Development Studies. At ANU, Payne co-ordinates short course and micro-credential offerings and convenes courses such as 'DEMO2004: Social Inequalities in Health' and 'DEMO8090: Population Issues in Asia'. His research centers on life-course processes shaping population health, with a specific focus on health inequalities across different contexts and generations. He examines the interrelations among chronic health conditions, disability, mental disorders, and cognitive impairment, and seeks to advance multistate analyses and demographic microsimulation within population health research. His methodological interests also include causal methods and formal demography related to longevity.
